The Malik Sensitivity Model®

For managers and planners the Malik Sensitivity Model® (according to Frederic Vester) is the most effective tool to visualize the interconnectedness of complex systems. The model can be implemented in a company quickly, practically, and comprehensibly.

For the first time ever, this tool enables users to understand complex questions in a holistic way.  They can visualize complex interconnections  and understand and utilize previously unknown dynamics and behaviors.

Because of the joined-up approach, users quickly reach an understanding of the system interrelations.  They identify effective control levers for steering the complex system.  They can develop and deploy relevant actions to address complex questions across any interconnected system - a business unit, a region, a university.  The modes of interaction between the organization and its environment become clear.  The consequences of diverse strategies and scenarios play out in simple and transparent simulations.

Problems that previously couldn’t be grasped – let alone solved – yield to a structured systemic approach.  Solutions emerge with little effort.

The approach and the software were initially developed by Prof. Frederic Vester and his team*.  In more than 30 years of practical usage in solving complex questions within a constantly changing environment, the model has been continuously adapted.

The result is the only method of its kind, often (without giving it full justice) called the method of interconnected thinking or joined-up thinking.  This connects the results of biocybernetic science with a specific software development and has had many successful implementations over the years.

With its user friendly software the user is guided through a step by step process to:

  • capture and describe a complex system
  • collect all system relevant influencing factors
  • retrieve and evaluate the system dynamics
  • interpret the role of the influencing factors as levers or critical values
  • build and interpret the interconnected cause and effect structure
  • analyze the control loops and the behavior of the system
  • develop and cluster scenarios
  • simulate such „what-if“ scenarios transparently

*After a long term cooperation with Prof. Frederic Vester, Malik Management acquired the rights for his tool posthumously and integrated it in the Malik Management Systems®.
